Clean and Clear Winter Skin

Winter SkincareWelcome December!  It is official; the winter months are upon us.  This time of year is when one should start thinking differently on how they care for their skin.  One recommendation that will always remain is never skipping on the sunscreen (rain or shine).  Other the regimes for skincare routines will adjust to the colder, harder weather.

Here are a few tips to tackle skin care during the winter months:

 

Old Cosmetics

Start by going through the old makeup bag, and decide which items have expired.  Bacteria can develop on cosmetics, and one does not want this on their skin.  If holding on to mascara over three months, then toss it.  In addition, foundation has a shelf life of about one year.  This depends on the ingredients (fillers, talc, oils).  While cleaning up the old makeup, also clean the applicators and brushes with mild soap and water.  Once cleaned, leave them to air dry.

Beauty Sleep

During this busy time of year, one should get at least eight hours of sleep.  The skin hair and nails can all show signs of sleep deprivation.  The skin will become dry and dull.  Nails become brittle without proper sleep.

If one has trouble falling asleep, try retiring early and quieting the mind.  Another way to help fall asleep is by turning the electronics off an hour before bedtime and skipping caffeine.

Exfoliate

We have said it once and we will say it again.  Exfoliate the skin with gentle microbeads to rid the dead, dry skin.  Then apply a nonirritating moisturizer once completed.  Skincare professionals skipping the more aggressive anti-aging creams during winter months.  These creams would include products containing retinol or salicylic acid.

During the colder seasons, the acids can produce excessive dryness and flaking.  Opt for a non-oil based moisturizer and gentle cleanser.

Gymnasium

During the winter months, many people tend to get busy and workout less.  The cold weather can also influence someone to become sluggish and lazy.  Within that busy schedule, be sure to fit in at least three times a week for some exercising.  Eventually, the activity-induced endorphins make one feel more vibrant than any hot cocoa or a cheese platter.

Try something new for the winter to mix up the workouts.  One can join classes such as yoga, pilates, kickboxing etc.

Pucker Up

During the colder months, chapped lips are always a problem.  The number one rule is do not lick your lips.  It can make the chapping worse.  A great option for lip balm is one that includes a SPF protection of at least 15.  It should also have added moisturizers like cocoa butter or Shea butter.

Arched Brows and Tinted Eyelashes

According to a renowned Los Angeles makeup and eyebrow artist, this winter’s hottest facial trend is professionally arched brows.  Brows can frame one’s best features.  It brings symmetry to the face and give that mid-winter crave we all desire.

Tinted eyelashes give one that effortless I wake up looking this good in the morning effect.  Be sure to use a vegetable dye and never hair dye.
